Meet Ebony Turner, another one of our fantastic Equine Techs at our Findlay Road clinic.
Ebony joined the team in early July and we caught up with her to learn a bit more about her and why she loves her job!
What were you doing before you came to VetSouth?
I was a Stable Foreman/Trackwork rider for Kelvin and Aimee Tyler Thoroughbred racing for 5 years at Riverton Racecourse. Recently I have been attending race meets and helping behind the start gates.
Favourite part of your job?
Working with the horses of course! But I also enjoy the variety of the job - whether it be an injury, illness, routine dental or even a foot abscess, no day is the same! I find equine fracture repairs really interesting and love to see the recovery and return to racing/competing/pleasure riding. Equally, wound repair and management is high on the list! I am really passionate about horses and helping them be in tip-top condition and the best they can be health-wise.
Tell us more about you and what makes you tick?
I am southern born and bred in Riverton. I have my thoroughbred trainers license! I am currently training three racehorses. I own 5 horses including my racehorses. One of my horses is a whopping 30 years old, I also have a rising 2yo Warmblood/Thoroughbred cross that I look forward to producing into a competitive all-rounder. I am also a NZTR acknowledged rehomer, which is very rewarding, finding off the track thoroughbreds their forever home.
